Paul Ward to Grow Programs and Services in Dutchess County
The Greater Newburgh YMCA announced the hiring of Paul Ward as the organization's new community expansion coordinator. Ward's hiring represents a significant step forward in the Greater Newburgh YMCA's plan to expand its program and service offerings in Dutchess County.

The Greater Newburgh YMCA's expansion fills a void left by the closing of the former Dutchess County YMCA. In the fall of 2009, YMCA of the USA, the national resource office for the country's YMCAs, granted the Dutchess County service area to the Greater Newburgh YMCA, determining that the Greater Newburgh Y was well-positioned to deliver vital YMCA programs and services to the county's children and families.

"We expect the transition to be a smooth one, given our proximity to and familiarity with Dutchess County," said Jack Smith, chairman of the Greater Newburgh YMCA Board of Directors. "We are thrilled to have Paul on board to lead this effort. We are committed to addressing the unique needs of each community and ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to participate in YMCA programs - programs that build health in spirit, mind and body."

The Greater Newburgh YMCA already offers after school programs in southern Dutchess County. Ward's primary role is to oversee the expansion including recreational, environmental, youth leadership and after school programs.

Ward earned a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sport and Tourism and a master's degree in Sport Management from the University of Illinois. He helped spread disability awareness to suburban residents of Illinois and coordinated wheelchair basketball camps at the university and in Chicago, San Diego and Japan. Prior to joining the YMCA, he worked for the New Jersey Devils hockey team and New York Titans lacrosse team in sales, marketing and game day operations.
